How does the SPIDER® Surgical System Work?
SPIDER® works by providing surgeons with multiple instrument channels through one small incision. Small, flexible instruments are inserted in the right and left channels, and they provide the surgeon with dexterity in performing multiple tasks throughout the surgery. SPIDER is unique in how it opens up within the abdomen to give the surgeon working room to perform the surgery.
SPIDER: ENABLING LESS INVASIVE SURGERY
The surgeon inserts the SPIDER Surgical System through a single incision usually located near the patient's belly button. The system opens up umbrella-like within the abdomen, providing the surgeon with two flexible channels for right- and left-hand instruments with 360-degree range of motion, and two rigid channels for small cameras and other instruments. Once the procedure is completed, the SPIDER Surgical System closes up and is removed through the same incision.
How SPIDER Works
With the SPIDER Surgical System, surgeons operate with a set of tiny, flexible instruments through a single incision near the patient’s belly button, most often creating a scarless result. Here's how the procedure works.
The surgical device is inserted through a small incision in your belly button.
Once inside, the system expands umbrella-like, and the surgeon can use a variety of instruments to perform the procedure.
Once the procedure is complete, the surgeon collapses the system in preparation for removing.
The tools and the system are removed through the original incision.
